Acting Principal News

Kia ora koutou

Welcome to the end of Week 8. Wow!! There has been a lot happening and it’s hard to believe that there are only 3 weeks of this term left.

Our principal, Jason Pocock is currently on an Asian marketing trip to Seoul, Singapore, and Vietnam. I am in the acting principal role until he returns in a week. At present, Jason is attending the Global International Baccalaureate conference in Singapore and has joined Deputy Principal Ashley Triana, along with Stuart Nicol, our IB coordinator.

This provides an excellent opportunity for ANI to connect with others and be exposed to the latest educational learnings, trends, and initiatives, presented by a strong list of internationally renowned speakers.

Book Week was a huge success and a massive thank you to Room 19 teacher, Faiza Chowdhury for coordinating this for our community.

Events like this require a lot of time and effort to run smoothly and Faiza has done a wonderful job. From dressing up as your favourite book character to visiting author Des Hunt, who thoroughly entertained and educated our students using physics to inspire them in reading.

The scholastic book fair was also a roaring success, with all monies spent providing significant remuneration to the school. This will be used for purchasing new books for our library.

Some of you who have been in school may have noticed that our cricket wicket has been replaced and new cricket nets and run-ups are currently being created.

The school now has a brand new kiln, which enables our Art programme to offer clay and pottery alongside the wide range of media that our Art specialist, Mrs Purchase, delivers.

A special mention must go to our Grants Officer and Alumni Ambassador, Mandy Tomlins, for the relentless support and effort that she has put into securing these two fantastic projects for ANI.

This comes to a total of 53k in successful applications and will only enhance the opportunities we offer our tamariki and community.

Another mention also must also go to the Grassroots Charitable Trust for their support of our school and continued input into upgrading our current facilities and property.

It is wonderful to see our tamariki enjoying this fabulous weather and making the most of the opportunities that are presented to them.

There have been a number of trials for both our long-term sports and our AIMS teams happening over the last 3 weeks. This allows for selection to happen early and some valuable training sessions put in place.

We also have been blessed with such beautiful weather and the school pool continues to be well used.

Communicating with Staff:

Please note: If you want to get in touch with your child’s classroom teacher, go to our website and click on Our School, Our Staff and under their picture is a small envelope.

If you click on this, a form comes up. Please fill out this form, as the email will go directly to the teacher.

As we head into the weekend, take care and spend some quality time with your whanau and friends. Long may this great weather continue and I look forward to catching up with you if you are around our kura.

CZ BOYS' CRICKET CHAMPIONS!

After being rained off for the last 2 years, it was a relief to see the sun for the CZ Boys’ Cricket last Thursday, 6 March. ANI is a strong cricketing school, and the boys were excited to show their talent in a massively reduced format of the great game.
They met St. Peter’s in the first of only 2 pool games (don’t get me started), starting the game with ball in hand. Good line and length made it hard for St. Peter’s to put many runs on the board. Some heavy hitting from all batters chased down and exceeded a rather small total to put our first win on the board 56 – 16.
Big credit to the team who managed to stay engaged and enthusiastic while having to wait out 2 games, helped keep momentum into their final pool game against KTS. A massively one-sided affair with the intent to score as many runs as possible paid off, winning 85 – 11.
Not knowing who had finished 1st in a split pool was nerve-wracking time and with relief, it was ANI put in the 1st place box, setting up yet another final against RI.
RI batted first, but ANI were on their toes in the field; nothing casual about it. A couple of ripper catches and some tight bowling restricted RI to 24 runs. We continued the intensity with bat in hand, and some quick running and big hitting made light work of the total, surpassing it with ease, winning 61 – 24.
Thanks to the boys for a positive attitude and good sportsmanship throughout the day and to Anna Gatie for scoring.

CZ GIRLS' CRICKET CHAMPIONS!

I had an AWESOME day in the sun with our Girls’ Cricket Team.
A mix of year 7 & 8 students. Our experienced cricketers took the relatively new girls under their wing, and some exciting cricket took place. They all played with great sportsmanship and had lots of fun.
They had 4 wins against RI, Dio, St Cuths and Kōwhai with 1 loss to Marist (by 1 run).
At the end of the round robin, having only had 1 loss, we were announced as the Winning team.
A huge thank you to Simi, alumni and older sister to Anika in Y7. Simi was our umpire for all 5 games and did an amazing job.
So proud of these young ladies. A cold treat on the way back to school was well-deserved!

Vrisha - Art Competition Winner

Last year, Vrisha took part in a nationwide art competition and won! This is a fantastic achievement by Vrisha who returned to Newmarket School for the afternoon on 26 February to collect her award.

Ka pai Vrisha! We can’t wait to see what you achieve here at ANI!

Karate League Champion - Ashley B

Celebrating further extracurricular achievement goes to Ashley B who won a gold medal at the Auckland Karate League Championships on 9 March!

She demonstrated exceptional skill and determination in her division (Kumite Female, 10/11 Years, 35+kg).

Well done Ashley on your amazing success in Round One of the Championships! And we can’t wait to see what you accomplish moving forward!

ANI is backing you all the way!

Lola R - cast member in Encore Theatre Collective

We are always excited to hear about students’ success in their extracurricular activities, and our very own Lola R has been chosen to be part of the cast in the Encore Theatre Collective Production of Annie at the Bruce Mason Centre this June.

We want to say a huge congratulations to Lola as we know that being selected out of a massive number of auditionees is an amazing achievement.

There are two special school matinee performances on Thursday, 19 June at 9:45am and 12:15pm.

Tickets are reduced to just $12 for students, teachers and chaperones (this is a saving of over $30 compared to public show tickets).

It would be great if anyone would like to go along and support Lola!

CZ Swimming

Kia ora all,
I am excited to share the awesome results from our CZ swimming at Dio today! Our kids really brought their A-game, swimming their hearts out and cheering each other on like true champions.

With an amazing squad of 16 athletes, they all did a fantastic job in each of their heats. We had five superstar swimmers dive into the finals, and they did not disappoint!

Jesse and Harley both gave their events their all and had their whole squad cheering them on through their finals.

A big shout out to Kevin, who made waves by snagging 3rd in the 50m backstroke and then dominating the breaststroke to take home 1st place!

Imogen also made a huge splash, finishing 2nd in the butterfly and 4th in the 100m freestyle. Amazing stuff! 🏆

Huge cheers to all our athletes for their dedication and spirit! Mahi tika ana, swimmers 🙌

Epsom Girls Grammar School

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students

Epsom Girls Grammar School would like to invite Year 8 girls to an Open Day on Wednesday 9 April 2025.

We deliberately hold our Open Day during a normal school day so that prospective parents and students can see what learning looks like for our students on a day-to-day basis. We hope girls will get a sense of the many academic and co-curricular opportunities that a large Grammar School offers and have the confidence to ask questions of the young women taking them on a tour of the school. The girls school environment is one that is caring and empathetic, supporting girls to develop skills and character in their time with us and to leave as strong and confident young women.

Parents need to register to attend the Open Day. There will be a presentation and guided tours for students from Auckland Normal Intermediate School at the pre-allocated time of 1.35pm. Students are encouraged to attend in their current school uniform.

To register to visit the School Click Here or go to our website www.eggs.school.nz  If you have any questions please contact our Reception by return email or by phone 9706710
