Kia ora! My name is Maddy Mitchell, the year seven classroom teacher for Room 23. This will be my first year at Auckland Normal Intermediate and I’m so excited to be joining such an inspiring team. I grew up on Auckland’s North Shore as the middle child with an older sister and a younger brother. In 2015 I was blessed with three step sisters and I’m now the second oldest! My beautiful blended family is full of love, laughter and lots of fun! I have always had a passion for ballet and contemporary dance and I can’t wait to share this with the ANI community. In my spare time I often find myself creating and watching things come to life. I have recently enjoyed painting by numbers, diamond art, playing guitar and listening to live music. My family and I are also massive rugby union fans and never miss a game!
Teaching and learning is in my blood and it is definitely in my heart, which is why the principles of ‘Whanaungatanga’ are so important. Building strong and positive relationships with my students and their whānau will always come first. I am really looking forward to fostering an environment for lifelong learners, where everyone is supported to take ownership over their learning. I welcome curiosity and will encourage my students to use their mistakes as a stepping stone to success and to take risks in all areas. Kia pai tō rā!
