Hello everybody, my name is Kate Shin and I am the international student director.  I believe in leading international students to excel and learn English as well as know Kiwi culture so that they can experience true enjoyment at our school.  I encourage the students to take risks and try new opportunities whenever they arise.  I enjoy teaching within the International Baccalaureate programme.  I am a collaborative teacher who is passionate about working with international students who are experiencing the transition to a new country and school.  I want to give good guidance to the students so that they can be successful in what they do and express their interests to others.

I was born in Korea and have lived in New Zealand since 1996 with my family.  I completed a Bachelor of Arts with a major in English linguistics and literature and also completed an English teacher qualification while I was in Korea.  Then I did a TESOL at Canterbury University and a Master’s degree in Language teaching at Auckland University.  I have realised through my education and career in Aotearoa how important it is for children to enjoy their learning experiences and value a well rounded education.

My hobbies include reading, singing, playing the piano and travelling.

I am excited for this year and cannot wait to meet you all.
