Faiza Chowdhury

ISL-Writing Initiative, Room 4

Kia ora, my name is Faiza Chowdhury and I have the absolute pleasure of teaching Room 4 this year. I was born in Bangladesh and moved to the UK when I was a baby. My family consists of my mum, dad and two brothers, who I miss quite dearly!
I received my degree in English Literature and then went on to do my Secondary PGCE. I was a high school English teacher in the UK for 7 years before I decided to leave the grey skies and rain behind. It’s a good thing I chose Auckland!
Teaching has always been my passion as I grew up around lots of my little cousins and always enjoyed being in their company and helping them navigate the world around them. I love teaching and I know how important it is to have a strong role model in the classroom who values and empowers students, as we are the people they see 5 days a week for most of their waking hours.
I love to read and go on walks. I’ve been doing a lot of that since I’ve been in New Zealand and I’m starting to imbed myself in the culture and learn more about the country and its history. I also spend more time than I care to admit baking sweet treats for the people around me. Whether they want it or not.I am so excited to get to know my Room 4 whanau and learn all about them.
