Kia ora, my name is Faiza Chowdhury and I have the absolute pleasure of teaching Room 19 this year. I was born in Bangladesh and moved to the UK when I was a baby. My family consists of my mum, dad and two brothers, who I miss quite dearly!
I received my degree in English Literature and then went on to do my Secondary PGCE. I was a high school English teacher in the UK for 7 years before I decided to leave the grey skies and rain behind. It’s a good thing I chose Auckland!
Teaching has always been my passion as I grew up around lots of my little cousins and always enjoyed being in their company and helping them navigate the world around them. I love teaching and I know how important it is to have a strong role model in the classroom who values and empowers students, as we are the people they see 5 days a week for most of their waking hours.
I love to read and go on walks. I’ve been doing a lot of that since I’ve been in New Zealand and I’m starting to imbed myself in the culture and learn more about the country and its history. I also spend more time than I care to admit baking sweet treats for the people around me. Whether they want it or not.I am so excited to get to know my Room 19 whanau and learn all about them.
