Kia Ora! I’m thrilled to be joining the ANI whanau in 2021 as the music teacher. Before moving to Aotearoa New Zealand last February, I was a high school music teacher in my home town of Perth, and prior to that, I lived in London where I studied and worked at the Royal College of Music. I’m also a composer and piano teacher.
It is my firm belief that good music education is the right of every child, regardless of their background or their perceived “talent”. Every child is musical! In evolutionary terms, humans were making music long before they had language – it engages more parts of the brain than any other activity we do. Music makes children smarter, kinder, and happier… I’m incredibly privileged to be entrusted in some small part with their development.
Aside from teaching music in the classroom, I also lead the school orchestra, choir, and rock band. I also have the exciting two of directing the school musical later in the year!
Outside the classroom I love spending time with my partner Dan, working out, travel, and all things nerdy: board games, LARP, mediaeval cooking and more!
