My name is Charlotte Ironside, Year 7 classroom teacher and ISL (In School Leader).  This is my third year teaching at ANI and I love the variety and excitement that working at ANI brings.

I moved to New Zealand four years ago to discover a place as far away from my native Yorkshire in the UK as I could and fell in love with the beauty and kindness of Kiwi’s and their country.  I spent a year travelling over both islands before deciding to settle down in Auckland to resume my teaching career.

Having studied Ancient History at university, I have a very analytical mind and adapt this into my teaching.  I enjoy helping students unravel the mysteries of the world and helping them learn from the past in order to improve their future.  One thing I have learnt about kiwi kids in my time educating over here, is the huge thirst for knowledge and keen curiosity they ahve as they continually challenge their thinking and understanding of the world.  As a result, I like to create a partnership in my class, where the teacher guides students and students expand not only their own thinking, but my own as they discover their own ideas and opinions.

When I am not teaching, I love the outdoor lifestyle that being in New Zealand offers.  I will often be found tramping or rock climbing.  I have also recently purchased a campervan and look forward to having as many adventures in New Zealand as possible!  I can also be found watching cricket (like a good English girl!!) and any ice hockey I can find!  I have recently just got engaged and will be using most of my spare time this year to begin wedding research and potential planning!
