Kia ora, my name is Chae-Yeon and I am very excited to be joining the Year 8 Rimu team as the Room 13 teacher for 2021. I completed the Bachelor of Primary Teaching degree from Laidlaw College mid last year and joined ANI straight after and taught as the Music Specialist Teacher.
I was born and raised in Tāmaki-Makaurau, and my family immigrated from Seoul, South Korea. I speak fluent Korean, and I value my unique experiences and identity as a Korean-Kiwi. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending quality time with friends and family, enjoying a nature walk or hike, and doing DIY arts and craft.
As a teacher, I put positive, strong relationship building with my ākonga and their whānau at the core of my practice. I believe that ako (the flow and ebb of teaching and learning between learners and teachers) is extremely important in creating a classroom environment that views us as lifelong learners, and values deep collaboration and connection. I am truly hopeful that as our learners prepare for their transition into high school, all learning in 2021 will foster for positive self-growth, and aid our learners in their development of a healthy self-identity and sense of self-worth.
