Kia Ora! I’m Whaea Candice!
Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, I moved to New Zealand at 18. I did not enter education immediately after school but I began my first degree in English and politics. After I finished university, I immersed myself in the dynamic world of hospitality. From the streets of London and Dublin to New Zealand, I carried a love for people, diversity and learning with me.
My roles in hospitality ignited my passion for connecting with people, and I took this with me as I transitioned to education.
Over the years I have had the privilege of working in various schools in Auckland with students from various ages and backgrounds. As a neurodiverse learner, I’m an ardent advocate for recognizing and celebrating unique strengths. It brings me immense joy to make a meaningful impact on the lives of learners, guiding them to unlock their full potential.
Outside work, my heart belongs to family, and I treasure visits to Whangaparaoa for quality time with whanau. At home, a cheeky ginger cat named Honey Puff Pirate keeps me company. I’m an avid reader and audiobook enthusiast, especially enjoying Terry Pratchett’s novels and the Rivers of London Series. Theatre and musicals have been a lifelong passion.
I am so excited to be joining the team at ANI and can’t wait to see what this next chapter will bring!
