Kia ora koutou! My name is Emma and I have been teaching for the past 12 years from new entrant up to year 8. Before teaching I completed a Visual Arts Degree and worked as a graphic designer before completing my postgraduate diploma of education in 2010.
I have always incorporated visual arts into my teaching and find it a wonderful way for students to be able to express themselves. I design lessons where goals are achievable, where you don’t have to be “good” at art to realise your creative potential and to feel successful in your learning. I love that I can give students opportunities with different materials, mediums and techniques that they may have never tried before and I also endeavour to create a space where they can have fun!
Designing and creating has always been a passion of mine and most of my fondest memories from school are of the art projects I did. I am always trying something new and my current passion is hand-building with clay. I have two young children who have got the creative gene and who keep me busy outside of work. I love spending time with my friends and whanau and try to take my kids on adventures when the time allows!
I am really excited to be starting at ANI and I look forward to meeting you all and getting creative!
