Commissioner’s Update:

Late last term there was a wonderful pōwhiri for our new permanent Principal, Mr Jason Pocock. If you weren’t able to attend, no doubt you will have heard about the special occasion from your children or parents who were there.

We are very excited about this coming Monday 9 October, being Mr Pocock’s first official day as Principal. Next Thursday 12 October, at 5.30pm, we have a ‘Meet-the-Principal’ opportunity. I look forward to seeing many of you there and introducing Mr Pocock.

With regard to the formation of a new School Board, the Ministry of Education and School Trustees Association recommend that we don’t rush. It is important for Mr Pocock to get settled in, and to make sure all concerns relating to historical matters are fully resolved.

As I continue my role as Commissioner, I have asked the Advisory Group (who were an important part of the Principal recruitment process) to meet each month with me and Mr Pocock when we have Governance (like Board) meetings.  I know this group will continue to provide a ‘community voice’ and their input into our strategic thinking will be most appreciated.

Take care.
