AIMS Games Update

The AIMS games are well underway and in full swing. Teams are training hard and students are making the most of their expectations in each sport. Some teams have more practice games organised before the commencement on Saturday 2 September, so good luck in your lead-up before you leave. We are looking forward to our next six weeks of getting ready and prepared for AIMS so everyone is in the best position to achieve at a high level and represent the school to the best of their ability.

Overseas Trips

We have our final parent evening on Wednesday 2 August in the school library at 6pm.  Each group (Cairns and Japan) will be going over a variety of items including passports, visa’s, spending money, expectations while the group is away, gear lists and what we will be doing before we leave for each destination. The teachers and students are looking forward to making some life-long memories and experiencing some new, interesting and exciting challenges. These groups will be leaving after the AIMS Games.

Ngā mihi nui

Shane Devery (Acting Principal), Ashley Triana (Acting Deputy Principal) and Kieran Gleeson (Acting Deputy Principal)

Student Congratulations

This week’s Principal’s Badges are awarded to these amazing students for their support of the school in a variety of areas.

Regards Shane, Ashley and Kieran

SIP Abacus

We would like to congratulate Angela C who has won first place in an abacus competition in Auckland back in June, and participated in national finals last week. She has not won in the national finals but was only a few points near to the qualification benchmark. She was given 2 weeks to get the qualification to compete in Sri Lanka at the end of the year.

The event was organized by SIP Abacus, which is recognised worldwide. Their website is linked here.

Regards Shane, Ashley and Kieran

ANI PB4L Journey

Our PB4L journey is going to take a planned pause at this stage while the principal appointment process concludes. It will restart soon alongside the principal. Watch this space!

Team-Newsletters

Each team leader prepares a team newsletter telling you what they are planning for the term ahead (Year 8 Matai/Rimu, Year 7 Totara/Kauri).

In addition, the Specialist Team (Kowhai) will also send home a newsletter outlining events and activities in these specialist areas.

These are uploaded to our website at the beginning of each term.

Epsom Girls Grammar Talk

Great to have our local Grammar school come to ANI, with some past students, to discuss the school in more detail and answer a myriad of questions.

AGS will visit later in August.

Chess Tournament Success!

Last Thursday 27 July was an amazing day for all the boys attending the Auckland regional chess tournament by Power Chess. Children from all schools showed a high standard of competition and it was touching to see some children bursting into tears or getting angry when losing a game while others jumped joyfully or celebrated quietly their winning game.

It was definitely a contrast of emotions and fast heartbeats, plus some tachycardias, but ANI boys showed their humbleness, courage, and brotherhood amidst each round.

Great news to share that ANI team came 1st as the best school among all the intermediate schools making our school proud.

On top of that, five students got a gold medal as the best team qualifying for nationals which will take place in South Auckland.

ANI Needs Your Help:

Auckland Table Tennis are currently piloting an initiative called the Tables in Communities project and recently has decided to hold special giveaways to selected schools which need Table Tennis equipment.

As such, they would like to give Auckland Normal Intermediate the opportunity to participate in our special giveaway as part of this project:

If Auckland Normal Intermediate reaches 250 player registrations by the end of August 2023, they will throw in the following extras along with the first Table Tennis table won:

 4 x BRAND-NEW TABLE TENNIS TABLE

4 x BRAND-NEW TABLE TENNIS RACKET + CASE

1 x BRAND-NEW TABLE TENNIS EXPANDABLE NET

1 x BRAND-NEW TABLE TENNIS SET OF TABLE TENNIS BALLS (10-PACK)

The main information needed for a successful registration is player’s name, e-mail address and school. Click here for more information.

It is important that during the registration process, students enter “Auckland Normal Intermediate” or “ANI” in the field which states “Place of work/School” because this is the only way we can identify which registration belongs to which school. This will ensure that everyone who registers from ANI is included when we do a count back to see how many registrations each school has at the end of the month.

We recommend early completion of registrations on the “Seekapong” app to guarantee ANI to secure any of the equipment mentioned above.

We hope the Auckland Normal Intermediate whanau can participate in this special giveaway as the current indoor Table Tennis tables are falling apart and is unsafe to use.

PTA News

ANI Knowledge-Athon

The PTA have their last real big fundraiser in full motion and focusing on the Knowledge Athon.

Thanks to Luke Barnard, the current PTA chairperson, for motivating the students to raise money one last time this year at the last assembly. The proceeds will go back into teaching resources and Sports equipment for students so a great opportunity to get behind our last fundraiser of the year.

An extra incentive for students is to gather $40 or more and receive a fundraising badge as well as a top class and the top three sellers getting prizes.

We really appreciate our Whanau for supporting this PTA initiative.

Look out for forms and information on your child’s google classroom page
