Student Code of Conduct

Rules help the school run smoothly, making it a safe and happy place for students to learn.

Standards for students
ANI classroom/playground rules:

  • Follow directions
  • Be considerate – no teasing or put-downs
  • Keep your hands and feet to yourself
  • Respect others’ property and the environment
  • Be in the correct place at the correct time with the correct equipment

If students cannot follow these standards, there are consequences.

Uniform

  • Sports shoes are only to be worn with PE Uniform
  • Full school uniform required when going home
  • Only plain stud earrings and a watch are to be worn, no other jewellery is permitted
  • In Terms 2 and 3, or when determined by the Teacher in charge of PE, anyone wishing to play on the field is to change into old clothes PE or school uniform, including school shoes, are not to be worn on the fields
  • No t-shirts or vests are to be visible under the neckline of shirts
  • Nail polish is not to be worn
  • Blue or white ribbons only in hair

Around the School

  • Show consideration when moving around the school
  • Classrooms are out of bounds at interval or lunchtime, unless supervised by a teacher
  • The bottom field may be used down to the PE shed
  • Bikes are not ridden in the school grounds
  • Use the paths to walk to and from the school gates

  • University of Auckland: Faculty of Education
  • Car Parks
  • Behind the Technology and Arts areas and Rooms 1 to 3
  • Behind Rooms 7, 8 and 9
  • Behind Food, Fabric and Science Rooms
  • Kohia Terrace School grounds 

At Auckland Normal Intermediate students will:

  • Use school equipment (Learning, Digital, P.E. and Furniture) with care
  • Ask permission for use of others’ things
  • Be prepared by having what they need for each subject – pens, pencils, ruler, PE gear etc
  • Do their best to stay focused and engaged in learning
  • Make every effort to complete all learning tasks
  • Return to class promptly when the bell rings
  • Ensure they are not involved in any form of bullying – physical, verbal or emotional
  • Allow no physical or mental abuse; put downs or insulting language
  • Participate only in positive interactions – there will be no threatening behaviour

Mobile Phones
Students are permitted to carry their mobile phones with them during the day. The school accepts no responsibility for mobile phones that are carried around the school or are left in bags or desks. Teachers will lock student’s mobile phones in a secure cupboard or filing cabinet if requested.

Behaviour Plan

At ANI the definition of bullying is:

  • Physical violence
  • Leaving students out of social activities deliberately and frequently
  • Frequent name calling and nasty teasing
  • Spreading nasty rumours
  • Deliberate damage to belongings
  • Threats – physical or verbal

Homework

At ANI homework is designed to:

  • reinforce concepts learnt at school
  • extend learning
  • prepare for new learning

It will also help students:

  • take responsibility for their learning
  • improve time management skills
  • develop effective study habits

All homework will be recorded on class ANI Google Site page or in a notebook.

ANI Taonga (treasure)

There are five types badges that students can gain and five types of shields. Badges should be sewn on the left sleeve of student’s hoodie or jumper and shields should be sewn on the right sleeve.

BADGES
ANI badge, awarded for:

  • Two ANI certificates
  • Outstanding academic achievement, e.g. high distinction or distinction in ICAS, Science Fair, Mathex, etc
  • Provide service to ANI by participating in a long term group e.g. leadership group, sustainability group, librarian etc.

 Sport badge, awarded for:

  • Member of a school team e.g. netball, water polo, etc for the year
  • Member of a Central Zone team that is placed first, second or third
  • An individual or team who goes forward to the Interzone Championships
  • Gain a Sports participation certificate in a Central Zone event
  • Five sports participation certificates earns a sports badge

Cultural badge, awarded for:

  • Cultural group member for whole year
  • Orchestra for the year
  • Choir for the year
  • Participation in Cultural Festival or Production

Principal’s badge, awarded for:

  • Two Principal’s award certificates. These certificates are issued for outstanding learning or achievement

International Baccalaureate badge, awarded for:

  • Three learner profile certificates

SHIELDS
Shield, awarded for:

  • Any two badges of the same type e.g. two sports badges = sports shield

PREMIER BADGE
Premier Badge awarded for:

  • Any three of the five shields. Premier badge application forms can be collected from the SLT office. Students need to fill these in and hand to the Principal’s PA Mrs Hulme. Parents will be invited to a whole school assembly to see this presentation take place
